Statement from R. L. Goad, President, and Founder of Gospel Music Coalition
For several years I have worked on projects for groups and artists and radio stations that were deprived of equal airplay and equal charting rights. We have found five companies that practice unethical charting practices. We have been told by numerous ones of these that there is nothing we can do about it. I believe them to be wrong both in what they are doing and wrong in what they say. The latest situation involves the chart in the Singing News Magazine. On October 26, a letter was issued to approximately 45 radio stations dropping them and taking away their right to chart. In looking into this we find a committee was formed made up of record companies, promoters, and one radio station owner. Our research has already uncovered that these people are biased towards controlling the market. They are biased against certain artists. They want to control the market for a certain few, mostly those that are paying them. Statements have been made that if you control the chart, you control the industry. Statements from individuals involved in the committee were made that they would keep certain groups out of the charts and they would never have the opportunity to be listed on the chart. This unfair control can not be allowed in the Gospel Music Industry. If you are willing to help or if you have information, or if you have been done wrong, please contact us. If you have any information pertaining to Singing News, please send it to one of the emails listed below. If you want to stand with us to bring about justice please become a member. There is power in unity and number. We will be relentless in bringing about fairness in the Gospel Music Industry.
